When I got to work this morning I was unable to turn off my car. All the shifting, jiggling and turning didn't work. It is going into park and I can hear a click in the steering column, but it won't release the key. I had to remove the battery cables to kill motor. When I got off work replaced cables and cranked the car and drove home. Key is still in ignition. Google has been no help. Does the 97 Bonny have a manual release like the grand prix?

On ours it was the rubber cover on the gear shift release button was bunched up or whatever. It was stopping it from fully releasing.
I just took ours off. Although our motor would shut off I couldn't get the key out.

It's not the shifter button, I removed the knob and still no luck.
The grand prix is different than the Bonny no release switch under steering wheel.
When I release the shifter button I can hear a click in steering column.

Try it in Neutral, not park.

UPDATE:

Got it fixed.
It was the lock switch in steering column. While staying with my in-laws in Mexico took it to local mechanic. It cost me $250 pesos with an exchange rate of 13:1 it was less than $20. They pulled steering wheel and replaced part. The part was bent and about to break. Everything's working correctly now. Didn't have to replace keys.
