My wife's rearview mirror on her 2003 Grand-Prix fell off today-

Do you try and remove the metal button on the back of this mirror (it seems to be on pretty tight!) or re-affix the entire mirror with the metal button still attached to the mirror directly back on the windshield.

If so- how do you keep the entire mirror in place for the adhesive to harden with the weight of the mirror involved? Tape it to the windshield or what?

Thanks for any help,

Chuck.

What you wanna do is put adhesive on the piece that the rear view mirror sits on the windshield with. If it is still attached to the mirror take it off and glue that piece on the windshield and then once it dries put the mirror back on that piece and it should hold it.

Thanks for your help, but what I need to know is (on this car) do your affix the entire mirror with the button already attached to the mirror directly to the windshield.

I don't see how you can remove the button from the mirror first ,then affix the button to the windshield and then re-attach the mirror.

How do you remove the button from the mirror on a 2003 Grand Prix?

How do you get the button off of the mirror- or re-install the entire unit?

Thanks.

Ummm Does it have a small screw in it that holds the piece on the back of the mirror? My bonneville rear view mirror has a small screw that holds it on the piece glued to the windshield If not see if you can push the button and see what it does if not then find some strong tape that will hold to the windshield after you put adhesive on it. Where is the button located on the mirror?

Thats the problem- the button is on the mirror like a rock- can't move it at all!- there is an allen screw that I loosened, but that only held the compartment for the electronic equipment together.(compass, temp etc)

The button is located at the the base of the adjuster arm for height etc- this is then connected to the mirror by a ball swivel- the problem is I can't see any way of getting just the button off- I think I'm going with your tape idea- that sounds the most plausible right now.

I read the post about using Loctite-

I bought Permatex Extreme Rearview Mirror Professional Strength adhesive -

This should work ok- its OEM specified- or should I use loctite only?

That was the screw I was trying to think of lol. Ok when you took the allen screw out did the piece that goes on the windshield come off the mirror. for taking the whole mirror out the car there should be a connector for the wires that are hooked to the mirror. If there is a connector disconnect the wires and thats it. You can just leave it hanging by the wires and just glue that piece on the windshield then once it dries put the whole mirror back on the windshield.

Oh I almost forgot try the OEM brand first and if that don't work then go for the loctite stuff.

Nope- thats the problem- I have the mirror etc of off the windshield- its the metal button thats the problem- when I removed the allen screw- nothing happened. I pryed open the middle and all that did was show a mini circuit board inside - nothing is releasing this d***
button from the base of the height adjuster- so its either I'm missing where to release this thing or you re-install the entire unit directly to the windshield by somehow supporting the mirror during the 15 minute cure time needed.

*Got it off!

It was'nt lined up correctly- it was jammed into the groove on one side- pryed it off- good to go fix it the right way now- just re-glue the button to the windshield, then re-attach the main unit to the button!

Thanks for your help- Appreciate it!
