So I have been trying to get my car ready for a big car show here in Florida and I was considering outlining the contours of my interior with this new type of lighting called EL wire. It is used in new cars, such as Camaros, and it looks really nice, just worried about how to mount the wire and if it will look cheap or gaudy during the day. If I do anything it'll be white because I have red LED strips in the foot wells already. Here is what it would look like at night.



What do you guys think?

I don't think it would look good at all. If anything you could MAYBE do the sides of the center console in red. But if you like it go for it.

After I get done with the sound system that'll be in it, it'll be worth showing off ahahaa. I think if I can find some of the wire cheap enough I'll try it, but if not I will probably just wait. I have red LEDs already in the foot wells and I love them. Then I am also putting UV led strips underneath the car as an underbody kit since I can't legally use red.

between mounting the wire and I'm assuming you cant just trim it wherever you want so it may be pretty tough to make it look clean. Not sure if the stock body lines inside are wide enough to fit the wire in. Interesting stuff though, keep us posted.

From what I can tell you can trim the wire and I think the body lines are just about perfect to fit them in just worried about how they would look in the daytime and whether or not I want the extra wires since I frequently take the trim and door panels off my car. If I do any color it would be white to try and make it the least visible during daytime.

I fully understand both of your perspectives on showing off a Bonneville at a true car show, but I don't think you guys are fully understanding the type of show I am entering it in. The show is called Spring Break Nationals in Daytona, Florida. It is primarily a car audio show, but also a tuner jam as well. I will be entering my car in under the category of a daily driver for car audio. My door panels are fully qualified for the show and I am hoping my subwoofer setup will be plenty loud as well. The lights and fancy upgrades are just a small plus to make my car look more than average by the flick of a switch. When I had gotten my car I had one goal in mind, I wanted it to look completely average and stock at first glance and then make it completely unique the more you looked. I am hoping to achieve that goal by the time the show comes around in March.

I'm pretty sure any color underglow is going to be illegal while driving on any public road anyways, so you could do the red for shows and whatnot if you really wanted to.

If you do it right, I think it can look really cool at night. The problem that I would have with it would be how it looks during the day. Unless the wire is hidden in natural cracks and crevices, it will look tacky. If you could tuck it into the crevice around the dash vents without it being noticeable it would look sweet.

This is the secret here. It would have to be thin enough to do this, and the execution is everything. You can also do it around the inserts on the door panels too. I wonder if they make a black tinted version of very thin EL wire, because otherwise it would look white during the day, which may seem out of place, where as black would accent.

I can't overexpress the importance of the execution however. It MUST look good during the day for it to meet with any approval from this dude. Can you post more pics of your interior by chance? So that we have a better idea what you have to work with?

Sort of a "sleeper", but instead of a "pavement/track burner", an "audio burner". Sounds good to me. I've never seen one, but I would think it would be interesting to at least go to a show. I've always enjoyed a good sound system. The sound system in my SE is probably just average, but it's probably the best I've ever had in a car and has gotten me listening to classical because of it..
