I'd like to get a 180 thermostat from INTENSE so I figured I might as well get some other mods while I'm there so I don't pay shipping for nothing.

So far I've got the thermostat, an AeroForce Interceptor, and now I'm thinking of getting a shift kit. Is the INTENSE Street/Strip Performance Shift Pak (http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/mer ... gory_Code=) what I'm looking for? Are these difficult to install and do I need any special tools? If I do future mods will I need to make adjustments to the kit?

It's very easy to do if you know how to drop the pan and not lose any of the small pieces in the kit.

Lol. Is there a tutorial somewhere? How difficult would you compare this to say, installing an FWI!? I need to take a look and locate where the shifter assembly is to begin with and I can go from there. Are there any write ups?

I read a thread from 2011 comparing the INTENSE kit with the Trans-Go kit. Does it still hold that Trans-Go is better?

I have the Intense one, got it at last years 3800 meet. I can't say if its any better or the same as the Trans-Go one. The instructions are on the Intense site. But it literally took me 20 minutes outside in the driveway. I didn't have to touch the shifter.
It's pretty much:
1. Drop pan and drain fluid
2. Remove filter
3. Remove and disassemble accumulator
4. Clean with brake cleaner
5. Install new springs and spacers as needed
6. Replace accumulator, and new filter
7. Replace pan and refill with roughly 8 quarts of your preferred trans fluid
8. Take a shower to wash off all the trans fluid you spilled all over yourself while dropping the pan.

Found the directions http://www.intense-racing.com/docs/INTE ... ctions.pdf

That's fantastic! Thanks haro!

Can anyone here explain the differences between the two kits?

This guide is what you're looking for. Essentially the same components. Just installed a transgo in mine and it was pretty easy. Just remember that after dropping the pan, once you break the 4 bolts that hold the accumulator loose there still is a good amount of fluid that will pour out of the lines. Found it out the hard way and got a little tranny fluid bath.

Oh nice thanks. Is there any compelling reason to go with TransGo over INTENSE or vice versa?

Haven't read up on the INTENSE that package appears to be better because it comes with the gaskets filter and everything. TRANSGO is a shift improver kit which is typically used to band aid fix a PCS issue. Transgo kit comes with more pieces to fix other issues like no OD, cant remember what else. I only used 1/3 of the kit which was accumulator springs and spacers which what comes with the INTENSE kit

I see. I thought I remember reading another thread that mentioned the Trans-Go kit had "more" stuff that was more worthwhile. I think in particular it said something about the springs but I don't know. I just want to put in the best kit in my car and it that means buying them both and taking parts from each, I will do it (since they're relatively inexpensive).

I just saw another thread where BillBoost mentioned that the Intense kit is a TransGo with a couple extra spacers, fresh seals, and filter. Does this make the Intense better? Also I don't think the Intense kit comes with gaskets - it looks like they need to be purchased separately?

The Intense kit I got had all the gaskets I needed. I didn't use their pan gasket as the oem one is reusable, and I have no leaks whatsoever.

This is the thread that I saw before: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=25341

00beast mentions that they're the same kit except the Intense comes with a filter and a piece of sandpaper whereas the the Transgo comes with a spring for the valve body. He tells the person asking to get the TransGo kit and purchase a separate filter and to not use the spring for the valve body.

It sounds like the Intense kit has everything we need, yet he still says to go with TransGo. This is from 2011, so I'm not sure if anything has changed. This is why I'm still confused. I'm ready to get one, I just want to make the right choice.

Does anyone know?

The reason for going with the transgo is the price. It basically has everything you need and IF you wanted to get the extra pieces that come with the intense you could probably do some searching and find them for less than the difference in cost between the TransGo and the Intense kit. I will tell you that the pieces you do not get with the transgo is the piston seals, filter, accumulator gaskets, sandpaper(should have some lying around), and trans filter. But when I did mine. You do not need a new accumulator gasket usually because they are reusable as is the OEM pan gasket. Pretty much the transgo will give you all you need because everything else is reusable. If you want to spend extra money on the intense kit just to have everything replaced just to have everything fresh in there go ahead. I got transgo for $40, Intense is $100. Assuming you have scotch brite and sand paper laying around you're paying $60 more for some piston seals, grease, a gasket and a filter. Transgo is recommended because it is easier on your pocket, people usually are buying it to help a problem that causes more money to fix the root of the problem and it is all you need to help fix it and everyone loves saving money

Thanks for the detailed response Mitten. Thanks to all who helped. Purchasing INTENSE. :)
