Spray on some degreaser, let it soak, rinse off with a strong blast from a hose. Repeat if necessary, and use a stiff nylon bristle brush if necessary too.

I've cleaned a lot of engines in my day, never used a degreaser. Just spend about a minute with a high pressure power washer. Other than spraying directly into the alternator, everything is waterproof.

willwren or Harofreak has posted how to clean an engine. I believe someone else has also. I believe Gunk Engine Bright engine cleaner was used by someone.

I ruined a set of brand new AC Delco plug wires on a '94 S10 doing that. I don't know if I did something wrong or if the plug wires were defective - BC

Not sure how you would ruin wires with water. :???: Ever driven in the rain before?

I just washed my engine this weekend using the method I described. Looks great.

The boots must not have been. I put the grease on the boots. I washed the engine bay and it wouldn't run right. I took it to the dealer, they found water in 2 of the wires.

I've ruined multiple sensors before using a pressure washer...it may work for others (seems to) but it's not something I will personally try ever again...

Ed's method works for me, but even so I'm pretty paranoid and cover up a lot of crap. I don't even wash my truck's engine it's so complex. I'd really like to someday though.

One car it was the fan switch I believe...washed it while the car was off, the fan kicked on and stayed on, wouldn't shut off. This was back when I had my Honda and didn't know much about cars, so that was about a $150 repair bill.

Second time was my LeSabre, that time it was the TPS. This was before I had my truck too, so I had to drive it to the parts store like that lol. Weird experience.

WD-40 is ok once it's washed to make hoses and stuff shiny. CD2 is way better, though.

Went to the car wash, right before i was to do the gasket repair.
Came out of the car wash not running right.change your plug wires before you go wash the engine! Took awhile to find out whyit was running like that. lol

No, change your plug wires immediately after, lol. I've washed my engine a few times with these same wires, no issues. Old wires will do that however, arc out on themselves after you wash them.

Anyone know where to find CD2 lately, or if there's something else that's a second-best product? Can't seem to find that stuff anywhere...
