378 viewsThis shows how I cut the old converter off using a pneumatic tool with a cut-off wheel.

New Converter Installed388 viewsThis is how it looks in the finished installation. Not much of a converter, is it? Supposedly it is fully legal, according to the company. It passes emissions no problem. But I think if someone actually looked at this during an inspection, I could run into trouble. I lost low end torque after this installation, but gained more power at higher rpms. I would have gone with a GM part but the price was ludicrous.

Internal View of Random Technology Cat Converter394 viewsThis shows what the inside of this converter looks like. It is a metal matrix style converter, instead of the ceramic matrix of the OEM unit.

New front pipe and converter tack welded into place535 viewsThis is how I welded everything. I used a mig welder with stainless steel wire.

New Random Technologies Converter and new GM front pipe406 viewsI decided to buy a new front pipe instead of playing around with the original rusty one, especially since I was going to weld.
Old_converter_in_car_40percent.jpg
Old converter, original OEM installation395 viewsThis shows what the original converter looked like as it was installed. I changed this because all the insides were loose and rattled around. It didn't hurt the performance of the car, but it drove me crazy. The car sounded like a piece of junk.

Exhaust system removed from vehicle418 viewsThis is the original exhaust system removed from the car. It is all welded together in one piece. This system was still very good even being 12 years old.
