A/c recharge
now that the weather is getting warm down here i'm already noticing that the A/c isn't cooling very much at all. my side feels like it isn't doing anything the passenger side is a little cooler but still not ice cold like it should be. i read somewhere a post by Archon i think that said that low refrigerant can be manifested by the drivers side getting warm first so i guess i need to charge it to see.
any particular trick to it?

Re: A/c recharge
Just buy one of those recharge kits at the parts store. Follow the directions on the can.

Yep very easy and takes about ten minutes. A word of advice, when using the r134-a to recharge the system, keep it submerged (mostly) in a bowl of warm water, trust me, it helps.

Re: A/c recharge
you should have gotten one of the leak detection kits first. they come with dye in the can, and a UV or black light to make he leak easy to find.

Re: A/c recharge
Don't they sell a recharge kit that has some kind of a sealant in it to fix leaks? One of my buddies mentioned something about it once, but I can't remember exactly what he said. Darn my selective hearing and bad memory...

Re: A/c recharge
Did you use a pressure gauge on the low side with the cans to check the fill amount as you did it?swampthing wrote:i would have but i was in a hurry and my budget was 15 bucks. my cousin had the hose already
My 98 required less than one 14oz can after 9 years. Two cans is a lot.
I'd suggest it will lose freon and you can add the one with the blacklight indicator if someone has a blacklight you can use to check.
Look at connections and lines for a light oiliness to see if the leak is out under the hood. Hope it's not the evaporator under the dash where you can't see it.

Re: A/c recharge
yes i used a pressure gauge. if it loses more i will get the one with dye in it. i haven`t used my a/c much because it has been a pretty cold winter so the leak could be slower then it seems
