Earlier in the week I went outside the one morning to get into my trunk. I pressed the trunk release, heard the latch pop, and then, nothing happened. Long story short, I found the the lock was completely frozen, from the inside out. I used an extension cord and a hairdryer that morning to free the lock and just figured it was the frigid temperature and some moisture in the lock.

Today everything thawed out, the temperature was around 45* all day. I went to open my trunk again and this time water poured out. It came from inside the trunk lid, probably 3-4 cups worth, so I guess the entire hollow section around the lock was filled with ice/water. Has anyone else had this problem? It looks like water is getting in through the area where the spoiler mounts to the lid, but I don't know for sure. Either way I want to fix this before it turns into a rust problem . Anyone know how the water is getting in?

The studs that are in the spoiler should have a seal around them. The spoiler itself is not sealed from the factory, but there have been people who put a sealing tape around it before replacing it. You have to remove it to do the sealing.

Also check your tails and the reflector on the trunk lid. These are also ways for water to get in.

Definitely sounds like a leaking spoiler. Remove it, seal the studs, and seal the base if you deem necessary. Also spray some silicone lubricant in the lock cylinder, it repels moisture.

Pulled the rubber bumpers/stops at the base of the lid and everything drained out, I also sprayed the whole lock down with silicone lube. It will have to do for now, to *dang* cold to stand outside and pull the spoiler. Should be good for a temporary fix till spring.

actually that is the fix...i have been running that way for a few years now. I have looked 1000 times where the water could be getting in, sealed the spoiler, sealed the taillight, still built up in the trunk. Removed the rubber and all is fine. there are also others that have done as i have and the problem went away

had the same issue with my Bonnie and with my Grand Prix and both were leaking in thru the spoiler mounting holes

I won't pull the spoiler unless you confirm it is what's leaking. I pulled mine along with the third break light and the center reflector and resealed all of them. Even after doing all that mine still leaked. I even climbed in the trunk with a flashlight while my wife hosed it down. It still filled but I was never able to find where it was coming from. I ended up pulling the rubber plugs and that allowed it to drain and that worked for me.
