1993 SSei performance optons
1993 SSei performance optons
Hey! I'm new to this forum, so I hope i'm not breaking any rules
. So here's my question: What are my options as far as performance on my 93' ssei? I would like to spend roughly 2k, and i can do some mechanical work myself. Thanks

Gut your airbox, put on a high flow cat and muffler, do a full tune up if you haven't already.

- 1987-2005 Bonneville / Buick 3800 Maintenance List
Run Seafoam through gasoline and intake every 5,000 miles. One pint of Seafoam in a half tank of fuel is a good mix. The intake is optional, but recommended.
Grease: Ball Joints, Tie Rods Every 8-10k (Green Grease recommended) http://www.greengrease.net/
Air Filter Every 15k (Amsoil EaA, Purolator PureONE)
PCV Valve Every 15k
MAF Sensor Element Cleaning/TB Cleaning Every 15-30k http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... =48&t=1661
Fuel Filter Every 12-15k (Purolator, AC Delco, WIX)
Spark Plugs Every 30k (NGK TR55 or Autolite 605) (Never Bosch)
Ignition Wires Every 30k (Napa Belden, AC Delco, Autolite Pro, NGK) (Never Taylor or Bosch)
Oil & Filter Every 5-6k (Mobil1, Purolator PureONE, Amsoil EaO or WIX) (Never Fram) http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... f=45&t=214
*Conventional Oil Every 3k(Pennzoil with a WIX (Napa), Delco or Purolator filter)
Transmission Flush Every 15-20k (Always make sure filter is changed when flushed)
Cooling System Flush Every 25k (Peak or Prestone Green Coolant Only) (Never Dexcool)
Oxygen Sensor Every 80-100k (30k for non-heated) (AC Delco or Denso) (Absolutely never Bosch) http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... f=48&t=794
*Special Considerations*
All 3800s, LG3, LN3, L27, L36, L26, L67 & L32, especially important on vehicles factory installed with orange Havoline Dexcool Antifreeze/Coolant: http://www.dex-cool.net/
Lower Intake Manifold Gasket Replacement, every 80-100k (ignorance of this can allow coolant to enter your engine oil, this happening can cause irreversible lower engine damage, requiring replacement of subject engine)
Series II, Naturally Aspirated, RPO:L36:
Upper Intake Manifold Plenum Replacement, every 80-100k (ignorance of this can allow coolant to enter your intake manifold, possible damage to occur can be hydrolock, irreversible damage to emissions devices, misfires, etc. Most times, engine replacement is required if ignored long enough.) http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... =53&t=1061

Re: 1993 SSei performance optons
with that budget you can do many mods. but as Ed first suggested, make sure the tune up is up to par, THEN start to mod. cheapest and easiest mods will be a new air intake, and porting the LIM. and being a 93 you have the option for roller rockers too (which will be a lil more pricy).
You didnt mention, but I just wanna say that the stock ignition and exhaust is more than sufficient for mods listed above and then some. exhaust upgrade will mainly be for sound and not so much for performance. And the stock ignition will handle just about any mod u can put on a series 1 L67.

Good advice above. And add this to the list:
http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... m.php?f=44
Half those articles apply directly, and the pulley upgrade MUST READ is a very important article. Plan on part of your budget for repairing cracks in the exhaust manifolds.

What kind of Hp gains would i be talking if i upgraded my roller rockers, got a high flow cat/flowmaster 80's, a fwi, and new plugs/wires?

Re: 1993 SSei performance optons
i believe its 15 or so with the roller's
the exhuast work would be a few maybe 3 at the tops
the fwi could gain you 5-7
and plugs and wires will not gain you power necasarily, but make sure your using all the power effectively

Do the rockers and pulley at the same time. It's a much safer tune, and they work better together than apart.
Each flow-related mod will work great, but when coupled together, each one works better.
