Kicked a sleeping dog on the fiancee's 95 Escort...

Post by LeSabre in Buffalo »

Didn't get bit, this time.

When changing the oil on my fiancee's 95 Escort yesterday, I thought to pull a plug to check the motor's condition.

The wire goes, "Schloorp" instead of "pop" and there's the metal part on the end of the plug. My fiancee promptly starts going batty one me. [-X After promising to buy new wires, we finish changing the oil (yes, she turned wrenches on her car) and I'm off to get new plugs and wires.

Look at the last plug pulled, out of cylinder #4 (right-most plug). This one was stuck to the point of being unable to turn without help from a penetrant. I don't want to think of when it was last changed. :eek2:

All 4 plugs, lined up by cylinder. Note cylinder 4 on the right.

Amazing how it ran for that long with the plug like that. Also cleared up some interior vibrations she wanted me to chase. :beerchug:

I think I gave those a pretty good run, but no damage though.

Have fun with the 95, the heads for this year only 1.9 like to drop valve seats when they overheat or just build up lots of miles

Great...car has 147k on it right now. She needs it to last another 2-3 years before we're in a position to get her a nicer car.

What are symptoms of that?

the symtoms would be very noticable. Failure and destruction of that cyl's valvetrain

Uh, yeah, dropped valve seat symptoms include the engine going "rattle, rattle, ratatattatattatatattataatatatatatat BANGBANGBANGBANG,CRUNCH!"

This is not something the motor generally lives through.
