I was browsing the RockAuto catalog and saw a TBI Pulsation Damper. What is this and what does it do?

Just google it like I did.
It dampens the pulses produced by the fuel pump to create a more even flow to the throttle body injector.

Do our cars have these stock?
I'm confused... when you say throttle body injector... I don't recall fuel being delivered to the throttle body...
I replaced my pump and sending unit and did not recall seeing one.
It looks like these are mounted to the pump...

Uh-oh.....I hope I didn't put the wrong sending unit in.
Here's what I had put in.
Please tell me I didn't F-UP

I know two guys w/ 1997 SSEi's who installed that same TRE-340 pump without using the dampener, and
as far as I know it hasn't yet caused them any known problems.
If you are concerned about it, or if you get flaky/unsteady fuel pressure readings, you might consider a 2000+ L67 fuel rail that has the pulse dampener built into it (instead of in the fuel pump sender unit).
BTW, I just installed that pump into my 1998 LeSabre; partly because my old pump was crapping out at WOT:
And partly in prep for my M90/L26 install, and I like the pump very much:
I'll be using a modded 2000+ fuel rail w/dampener built-in, just in case

Very long term, I'll be looking into intercooling.. is there an after market rail that has the damper built in?
I was looking at the PRJ Performance Gen3 L67 Aluminum Fuel Rails Kit, which is available for the 1996-2003 Bonneville SSEi.
I don't see a damper in the kit...

I believe those rails are designed so that the very "largeness" of them acts as a dampener.

Cool. Thanks for the pics btw. The 00 rails look sweet! The only issue I have with my TRE is that when I'm low on gas (near empty) and I come to a fast stop, it stutters almost like the gas went forward in the tank and no gas was sent. Boostie says the people who put it in for me probably didn't put the sock in the right position. Other than that, I haven't noticed any issues. Next year's project is a 5 angle valve job, 105 lb springs, 42 lb injectors, electric water pump, 3.2 pulley, and a cam.

So that ugly hockey puck on the front of my fuel rail is the damper? Nice plans 99ssei. Looks like a lot of intercooled SSEi's are going to be running around Illinois next year.

Hm, you know it did take me a minimum of 3 gallons placed into the tank before the TRE-340 would prime enough to start pumping after install. Maybe it simply doesn't stick quite as far down into the tank as the OEM? Haven't had mine in long enough to know how far down the gas gauge I can go with it, yet.

I don't know that I'd call it
ugly, but yes.

Don't think I'll get to the intercooler next year.

I think the rails without it look alot cleaner, but now that i know it serves a real purpose i won't be switching my spare in any time soon.

I ditched the on sender pulsator for the on rail pulsator originally since the slide on one made me nervous about better fuel pressure and leakage. Then I swapped out to PRJ rails. Pressure is steady and happy.
If you need a on rail pulsator..I probably have a rail hanging around.

Bad news....talked to Bill tonight and he does not have the 00+ rails. :sad5: There was a GTP I saw at the junk yard a month ago, however, the engine was burned badly in a fire. Not sure if the rails will be any good. Stock rails are $240 brand new, PRJ is $500. I'm hoping someone knows someone with one for sale cheaper.
Anyone had any luck with this used parts site?

Car-part is great for locating stuff.
Check the forums, someone will be selling one.

...I don't think i would spend 240 dollars on a fuel rail, especially when you don't know that that is the culprit of your fuel problems for sure anyway. Like Bill said, keep on eye on CGP, they are for sale pretty frequently.
