I haven't had to remove it from the tails, but I have from the 3rd brake light project. We had 2 coats of vht and 2 coats of clear and it took a lot of rubbin with 400 grit to remove it and then some 1000 grit before respraying. I don't know what to do for something as large as the tails.

I forget who it was who said it on Pontiac Bonneville Club (might of been old forum but I know there still apart) they got a hand sander for like 14 bucks and use hand sanitzer and it worked. I haven't tried it yet but been needing to cause mine are pretty dark as well and like to do a new 3 coats and clear then wax/polish them.

I used laquer thinner on a set of tails on a 300 that needed to have it stripped, you can sand down a bit if you want but make sure you don't choose too rough of a grit because it will end up scratching the tails if you are not careful. Laquer thinner and some rubbing with lots of paper towels made them look like they never had any vht on them.
