Was talking brake upgrades with a Mustang guy

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

Was talking brake upgrades with a Mustang guy

And he mentioned how he had thought he heard the Cadillac STS's of the 90's have the same struts as a 92-99 Bonneville.
If so what is so different we can't swap the 4 wheel disc brake setups off them? :???:
Really has me wondering. Also has me wanting to get to a salvage yard to do some inspecting.

My buddy the mechanic and former Caddy/Pontiac dealership mechanic told me this quite some time back.

The rears may or may not be worthwhile. Afterall they only do 25% or less of the braking.

If this could be done cheap enough it'd be a nice upgrade if not only for the 4-wheel disc look.
I suspect this could be an all day task requiring the replacement of the ABS module/pump.
Still something I'm going to look into.
Would be sweet to have 4 wheel disc brakes with slotted rotors at all 4 corners.

Putting bigger brakes up front would be much more beneficial, however you're still at the whim of the self-adjusters out back in the drums. I know many people have had to replace brakes over the years in this group due to the rears being out of adjustment, and then using the fronts much more then necessary.

But instead of a heavy duty strut in the rear, like the 87-99 H bodies, they have a lighter duty, shock style strut in the rear.

In theory, it might be possible to use a Seville's hub assy, and strut, and then just connect it to a 92-99 bonne's lower ball joint and upper strut mount and have it work...however, it seems since they're not using a heavy duty strut like the H bodies use, that there is some sort of additional support needed to hold up against braking, impacts, etc. Using this theory would be interesting to test, but it doesn't seem anyone sells lower ball joints for these assemblies..so I'm guessing it is a permanent press fit deal.

Looking into all the parts on paper, it doesn't look possible without some major fabrication...or safe even if it did work.

Guess its square one...
