High beam actuator?

A good 20+ years ago, this little black piece that actuates the brights on/off in the steering column broke. I figured it was unobtanium. I proceeded to extricate the actual bright switch and mounted it under the dash to the hush panel where I could reach it and flip the brights. It is functional, but not the most elegant solution.

I have just discovered it is a buyable piece!!

I watched a couple how-to's on YouTube, both on Chevy trucks and it looks like a bit of a pain. Does anyone know if it is somehow an easier install on a Bonneville? Is it easier to "just" swap the column?

Well thats interesting. Mine was broke when I bought my car and I was always under the impression I had to replace the whole column to fix it.

If you've ever had to replace the multi-function switch for the wiper stalk, that piece is about 1 screw deeper in the column.

I popped off the cover behind the stalk. I can see where it should go but there is no real hope of getting the replacement piece finagled in. So it'll have to wait for "some day".

Is the stalk replaceable without removing the steering wheel?

A couple FSM shots, for reference.
