Removing reflector from high beam

Has anyone removed the reflector from just the high beam and had good results with either the halogen or and LED 9005 bulb? I see newer vehicles that use the 9005 for high beam don’t have a reflector. 2015 Chevy Silverado HD, 2014 GMC Terrain for examples.

I’m taking apart a pair I got out of the junkyard. I got the 1st one done, took both reflectors out and sealed it back together.

I feel like it is not going to work well at all.

The main housing reflector? Or the small bulb cover? I'd guess without the main reflector light output would be as good as a candle. Removing the bulb cover would probably do nothing noticeable as far as light output.

Initial results are good after swapping out my drivers side headlight for the one without the “bulb covers”. Seems to be called a "shield". Not talking about the reflector mirrors. Drove home after SB and no dark spots from drivers side. I haven’t been able to get my passenger one out yet. Pulling the heck out of it.

Did a little research and seems they are called shields, which makes sense.

Should be now. Just pics of the headlights without the shields.

Do you really think there is a noticeable difference? If you've only done once you could be able to notice a difference against a wall/garage door.

Yes, I have noticed quite a difference between the 2 up against my garage door. I can post a pic showing it. I'll try to get pics of how well it lights down the road as well and how it looks to oncoming cars.

It's the high beam, so how it looks to oncoming traffic shouldn't matter.

I took both low and high beam shields out. Will try to take pics tonight.
