Yes sir, it's supposed to go under the throttle body!

I disagree here. From the factory there is a retainer clip that mounts to the black bracket on the throttle body. it is routed correctly, but looks like an aftermarket cable or someone put a large hose around it.

You guys got any pictures of how yours is routed? I wish I could find a picture of a brand new Buick engine bay, but they all show the engine cover installed. It looks like I need to figure out how to disconnect the cable from the transmission.

Interesting. Those pictures are showing the cable going across the top of the throttle body.

I think I got it figured out. The shift cable needs to go underneath the plastic fuel pipes that are clipped to the EGR guard. I hate messing with those fuel pipes because they're delicate and I have no immediate way to repair them.

OK, I disconnected the fuel pipes. All you do is squeeze the little tabs and pull up on the elbow. I think the shift cable wants to sit in that little valley on the end of the upper intake manifold where one of the fuel pipes come across to go to the front of the fuel rail. The only stipulation is, I think the shift cable wants to be under the main engine electrical harness as well. I think rather than disconnect the main harness all over the place, I should instead try to disconnect one end of the shift cable so that I can snake it under the engine harness.

The shift cable is extremely easy to remove. I use a flat blade screwdriver to pry it off the arm ball joint, then pull the metal clip straight up, and then push the plastic ears in and pull the cable towards you.

I found this picture on Google Images. Interesting how they have the shift cable routed-- right over the top of the MAF sensor. I tried doing that with mine, but it still pushes up on the engine cover. But then again, mine has that rubber sheath that goes over the shift cable. That thing adds a lot of diameter.
