transmission not going in gear ??

Post by javelin389t »

looking for some help on a an 2004 bonneville SE that after driving an hour ago and then parked will not go in gear. shifter/indictor move through all gears and cable and shifter lever are moving but car will not move. any help is appreciated. anyone ? when car is in park i cant push so i assume park is ok. on jacks wheels spin freely in opposite directions which i believe is normal. but puting shifter through reverse and 123 and no go? engine sounds fine. fluid level is ok. i have a bad feeling. seems like something inside the tranny. tranny was removed and rebuilt approx. 4-5 years ago.

If you put the gear stick into 1 or 2 does the car still not move? It only happens once the car is warm?

I parked mine in a parking lot and backed out, put in gear and nothing. Popped into "1" and it moved but slipped. Ended up being a broke 1st gear band, did a rebuild at that point. If yours doesnt move at all in any forward or reverse gear then it could be a full rebuild or something like a the filter seal failed. have seen the filter seal pinch or even the filter fall off in the pan completely and suck up air then acts as a bad trans (no trans fluid pressure) but usually its not a simple fix. Hope its a easy fix.
