Need help now! Car is stalling

Post by lspitzley »

:helpsmilie:
I was driving my car back up to school today when after about 15 minutes it stalled while I was driving. I put it in neutral and tried starting it multiple times but it would stall shortly after. I coasted into a driveway and popped the hood, but I could find nothing wrong. After about 2 minutes it started up and drove fine.

About a half hour later it was sputtering while I was driving and eventually stalled. I pulled onto a dirt road and kept starting it until finally it would stay on. I made it up to Mt. Pleasant with it stuttering intermittently most of the time.
Some things I observed:
The oil pressure dropped around 20 psi when idling, and occasionally when driving.
Oil level and color are good.
I washed my engine bay today, maybe I knocked something loose.

Hopefully someone can help me out because I want to drive it for the last week before my registration expires and I put it away for the winter.

That shouldn't have an effect on oil pressure though, should it? The oil pressure gets low on idle before the sputtering.

I just went out and started it up. It wasn't doing any of that for brief time I had it on, but the SES light came on. Unfortunately I don't have a scan tool. Does Autozone do scans for free? I think I remember seeing that on here somewhere.

I'll have to get out there soon then. Do you think I could have knocked something loose that would cause low fuel pressure?

sound like a crank shaft sensor or you have a bad intake manifold gasket

Get the codes read before we go any farther. The check engine light is the first thing to look at when diagnosing.

Could be stalling because of water on the ICM or connections. I agree on having the codes read before anything else.

Well it don't really matter to me now because I put the car away for the winter
I plan on changing the LIM gaskets sometime in the winter/spring before I get it out again, so we'll have to see if I fix it when I do that.
