non working HUD question

Post by Brutus »

Hello Everybody,

It's been a number of years since I had a Bonneville, but I miss them and am considering buying one now...a 2000 SSEi.

The only thing that makes me hesitant is that I'm told the HUD does not work.

I have tried using the search function and looked at the tech forums, but haven't found a lot of information on this yet.

Any idea if this would be an easy or even possible fix? These cars are getting hard to find parts for.

More details...I haven't even gone to see the car yet...maybe the dealer just doesn't know how to turn on the HUD...IDK.

I hope to go see it in a few hours.

It could be a few problems and I can't see why it can't be serviced. The Head-Up Display is not complex in these cars. There is the projector and the control along with the wiring. Both the projector and control are fairly easy to acquire. It could be wiring, but it won't be a fuse since the HUD shares power with other systems which also wouldn't work if that was the problem. I wouldn't hesitate on the car if that's the only problem. There's a member here that operates a business parting these out and I'd be extremely surprised if he doesn't have what you'd need.

Having had a Bonneville in the past, you know there's a switch to turn it on and a height adjustment. Perhaps the dealer isn't well versed in how it operates.

That's what I was thinking. If he doesn't know it needs to be adjusted for driver height he may never see it. Or maybe he was wearing polarized sunglasses when he checked it. You need to check it out yourself if you're interested in the car.
