Remove stove pipe without removing LIM?

I had a cracked egr tube with a sizable vaccume leak so I was going to replace that noticed a tiny bit of coolant around the egr tube bolt . Once I got the Throttle body off I saw that ther was like a build up of melted plastic from the UIM around the stove pipe edges .

Did I mention I did the UIM/LIM exactly 1 year ago? BUT I forgot to replace the stove pipe . :withstupid:

So I'm wondering if I can get the stove pipe out without removing the LIM and just replace the UIM?

I already have everything removed like fuel rail ,pcv cuz I broke it lol and tb and all but 2 UIM bolts . Any ideas or do I have to redo the whole thing?

The stove pipe pulls out of the LIM, so yes. You can remove it without removing the LIM. You've already replacing the LIM gaskets with the newer metal ones?

Assuming you can junk up the old one, vice grips and spinning it back and forth as you pull it should work. Do at your own risk though.

No sealant required on the new one.

Sweet will try that . Any other suggestions let me know. Cleaned the hell out of tb last night . Got a used egr might just buy a new one . What if vice grips don't work ?

Quoting from the Techinfo LIM/UIM replacement instructions http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... c3591.html If the stovepipe is stuck in the LIM, insert a close-fitting socket inside the pipe, then grip the outside of the pipe with a pair of vise-grips. Twist and lift to remove the old pipe. Clean out the bore for the stovepipe to remove any carbon. Set the LIM on a couple of 2x4s and tap the new reduced diameter pipe in place. Use a deep socket that just fits around the pipe and bears on the shoulder to drive the pipe down into the bore. Remove any oily residues from the sealing surfaces with brake parts cleaner.

The vise grips, as directed in bold type, should do the trick.
Only other option I can think of, if it is beyond reasonably stuck, is to thread the outside of the stovepipe and then create a puller from a socket and nut, being careful to protect the LIM surface with some wood.

Can I take it our without taking out the LIM the aluminum gaskets and sealant were put in less than a year ago I'd rather not rip all that out .

It should be possible, after all, it is not removed by tapping it out from underneath--it is removed by pulling it out.
Let us know how it goes.

Got it out , now I see ,coolant in 2 of the LIM ports but not to the top of the ports . Does that mean I have to replace the LIM gaskets again ,and what's the plastic clip that goes into the UIM connected to the brake booster hose I snapped a clip.

And I have to find my reduced stovepipes but if I can't where can I buy them?

It's expensive to buy the stovepipes since they appear to only come with the plenum or the Dorman 615207 plenum gasket kit.

Pull the spark plugs out, disable the fuel pump and crank the engine to get rid of the coolant.
Be sure to change the oil.
If the oil looks like chocolate milkshake, you'll have to do a few oil changes to try to prevent severe engine damage.
A couple of oil changes within a short while isn't a bad idea, regardless.
Damage can occur quickly when coolant is in the oil.
Quoting from the Techinfo LIM/UIM thread," If there was coolant in the oil, plan to run the car to operating temperature, and change the oil and filter again in an effort to remove any residual coolant from the engine bearings."

The EGR passage meltdown can let coolant get sucked into the intake but there's always the possibility that the LIMs are leaking if you weren't careful enough when installing them.
Did you use a torque wrench and thoroughly clean the LIM/engine surfaces when you replaced the LIM gaskets?
If so, they're probably still OK.

Yeah and I lied it was dark it's just a slight oil residue wasn't pooled up . My LIM was done carefully and has no leaks it was the uim leaking. I am replacing my UIM and cracked egr tube, ATP UIM . Broke an injector clip off . I'll probably just zip tie that

You can find replacement connectors on Ebay for very little money.
