Theft Deterrent System Message

I have a 2000 Bonneville SLE.
3 or 4 times in the last couple of weeks the "theft deterrent system" message comes on in the DIC after I start the car.
I then shut the car off and restart and the message goes away.
It seems to only happen when the temperatures are really cold.
Is there a reason why this happens?

I had that for two weeks but the system was working fine then it went away

test it - am the alarm by locking the doors - leave a window open
wait 5 minutes and reach inside the window and unlock the door and open
the alarm should trigger

96 SSEI.

I did what you said and the alarm did trigger like it should.
I am still having the same problem with the security light staying on when I start the car.
It does not happen every time but does happen sporadically.
I then shut off the car and restart and it goes away.
Is there a module for the theft deterrent system?
If so where is it located?

Thanks.

THIS IS A COMMON but minor aggravation at worst so dont mess with modules and it will go away in time - if it works well, why mess with it?
