2000 Bonnie - Lug Stud Replacement Problems

Hey all - new here.

I've lurked often and received good info but cannot find a solution to what should be a simple process so decided to register.

I have a broken lug stud on drivers side front and cannot get the loose studs pushed through at any position. I've rotated the hub to all positions on the dial and there is no cut-out or spot that will allow the old studs to come out.

What is the trick here? Does the whole hub need to be removed? If so, is this as simple as loosening the hub nut or is it more complicated?

My 30 minute job has me banging my head. I figured this was simple enough I could do it myself.....apparently not. Any advice is appreciated!

If there is no cut out then you have to pull the hub. Should be 4 bolts holding the hub on. If it's a front hub then you will most likely have remove axle. Might soak all bolts with on blaster, then tap the axle out the center with a hammer to pop it lose.

When putting new stud in I used a couple washers and a lug nut and pull it back into the hub.

Sounds good - I saw three bolts last night....plus the hub nut. I'll look for the fourth and hope for a completed job tonight.

Did you remove the rotor?
That may be what's keeping you from getting the right angle.
FWIW, the FSM says to remove the hub, but that is rather extreme.
I could swear I've gotten front studs in without taking the hub off.

I did.

I had success tonight - loosened the three bolts on back of he hub assembly as well as the hub nut. Used a technique I saw on you tube - involved putting an old rotor back on; the caliper mount bolt holes and some large bolts, washers and two nuts. As I tightened the bolt up it pushed the hub out about 1/4" which was enough clearance to remove the old and put in the new.

I had tried everything I knew of to get them out. Seems like it should have been a lot easier than this!

Also glad you found the fix. Another course of action worth mentioning is replacement of the hub assembly (which comes with new lugs) instead of the individual lugs. The hub assemblies are often high fail items, and often run under $90 for a timken brand. Replacement of the hub assembly is fairly easy.

I repurposed the idea a bit but it did the trick for me. I was telling a friend about it and he'd heard of the concept. I think he called it bolt jacking or something similar.
