Complete LED Conversion quiestion

Post by somthingwierd »

Hello everyone. I'm looking into replacing all or most of the bulbs in my bonneville with led ones. http://www.carid.com/2005-pontiac-bonne ... ed-lights/ Does anyone have any experience or and light to shed on the situation?

Don't get LEDs for low or high beams. You'll blind other people that way, and ultimately see worse in bad weather. Same story goes for HIDs. For low and high beams, stick to some good non tinted halogens.

Anything else can be replaced though. My interior is all LED, as well as my license plate and rear corner markers.

SuperbrightLEDs is a good place to buy them as well.

Do I need to retrofit lenses in my headlights or are they just plug and play?

Not sure for an LED headlight retrofit, but if you're wanting to go with HID headlights, you'll need to retrofit. Carl (nos4blood70) did this to his bonneville, as did 2003 SSEi. they both have threads on their retrofits.

True LED retrofits aren't practical, as they require you to find OEM projectors from cars that had LEDs from the factory. The cost is prohibitive, as well as the large size of the assembly itself.

An HID retrofit is easier since you can glue in some projectors and call it a day.

Installing plug and play HIDs or LEDs in 9006/9005 variety will simply create a scattered blob of light that blinds others and reduces your own overall ability to see.

The easiest thing to do would be to get some new non-tinted halogens. Alternatively, you can try and find HIRs, but those are relatively pricey and not a HUGE improvement over stock, in my opinion at least.

You have halogens stock, just replace your old worn halogens with some new ones.

My stock halogens are brighter and better focused than all the aftermarket HID's I've seen in person. If I ever do go to HID's I will get them from Carl (nos4blood70), if he's is still making/selling his upgrade. His are my first choice. - BC

I personally have the silverstar xenons with yellow fogs for when its snowing or raining. the xenon are a bright white and you also want to make sure you have clean headlights too.

I no longer run halogens, my car has HIDs retrofitted. But, it doesn't matter too much what halogens you get, just make sure they don't have any blue tint on them. The tint artificially raises the color temperature of the bulb, making it look whiter. In reality, you're losing valuable lumens.

As mentioned above, making sure your lenses aren't foggy helps as well, as well making sure they are aimed correctly.

I have a question about LEDs for interior lights.
With original incandescent bulbs, when the interior lights go off they dim slowly.
What happens with LEDs you guys are using?

Do not use those Sylvania's you linked. They're trash.

My LEDs still gradually dim like normal.

those actually were what I had at one point. I had them on my century and after I got into the accident w/ it I transferred them to the Bonneville which one blew like 2 months later
I used these for my fogs and love them for the yellowed light. yes I know its got the film on them but I seriously didn't want my fog yellow all the time when they were off. and they aren't the exact ones for the fogs youd want the 880's
