2004 bonneville am anntenna

Post by jrflyaa »

I am brand new to this site so forgive any mistakes I make--I have a 2004 Bonneville and recently the am radio has stopped working--the fm works, and the xm preview works ( I am not currently paying for xm)--id like any ideas on what may have happened--also where is the am antenna located--im not very good at this kind of thing , but I have a brother that is, and if I can give him a start in the right direction I think I can get him to help

My guess has always been that there is an am loop in the head unit itself, but i have never taken one apart

The AM antenna is the top grid along the rear window. It does double-duty with FM, which also has a grid along the windshield. There is an antenna control module under the headliner, at the rear, roughly in the center.

ive notice something else, if im withing a few miles of an am transmitting tower, I can pull that station in, although not very strong,--I would assume if it was the antenna , but the fm stations come in perfectly, and if the antenna was bad, wouldn't that affect the fm stations?

Not necessarily. FM has two antennas, front and back. AM just in the back. It can be the antenna, cabling, wiring, the antenna module, or the radio itself that is causing the problem. In particular, check where the antenna cable connection is soldered to the rear window for a start.
