1. For anyone inclined to poo-poo having a cabin air filter:

2. I should change my cabin filter more often.
3. Dear GM, how difficult would it have been to make the left side of the opening ½” bigger so I wouldn’t have to go all Kung-Fu to get the frikken filter installed? I mean, really, what kind of engineer can’t figure out that a 5” box won’t fit in a 4.5” hole?

The one in my Maxima is similarly a nightmare to replace...

It really shocks you how much crap those things keep out of your car over time, when you pull it out. Saves on dusting, no doubt...

No kidding. I'll admit I've been way delinquent in changing it so that's several years worth of dust collecting, but that stuff would have been all over in the car. One could argue driving down the road with a window open negates all the dust collecting the filter does, but when the windows are up in the heat of summer it's filtering some of the crap out.

I change mine fairly regularly and am always surprised at the amount of crud the filter catches! I can only imagine what the duct work would look like over the years without a filter. And for anyone that's curious, YES, I did wipe out all the ducts I could access when I had my dash out. They really weren't all that dirty and I attibute this in part to the filter.

When I had my LeSabre's dash out (no cabin air filter) the vents were all caked with dust in different places. The filter definitely makes a difference.

Apparently the 6 year rotation is not optimal.
