They should do the same recall for the GXPs too! That *dang* oil cooler line always leaks!! I've replaced it and the new one is doing the same!!! Sick of it!

In the article it is only listing the W body vehicles so it does not apply. However it is still possible on any 3800. Just make sure your valve cover gaskets aren't leaking and it will be fine.

Cam covers on N*'s are also known to leak preciptously too...

JMHO, all internal combustion engines are prone to leaking fluids. You just have to really watch them.
My experience has been when you do a gasket, generally speaking, make sure the bolt holes are as close to 100% cleane as humanly possible, the bolts/nuts are too, and use a "dab" of green locktite on the bolt/nut. Let it dry good before installation. Torque to spec, and you should be done. - BC

I'm sorry, but why are 19 year old cars getting recalled and not my 21 year old Regal coated in it's own oil from crap valve cover gaskets, or my 23 year old PA for crap transmission cooler lines?

THIS ALL MAKES SO MUCH EFFING SENSE NOW!
My 07 Grand Prix caught on fire and I contacted GM about it. They basically told me they'll take the car and refund the full KBB value or fix it for free, but hinted to be hush-hush about it. Saying technically my GP didn't fall under the problem area, but was close enough. Now they come out with this recall about cars with engine fires on similar bodies to my GP? I don't believe in coincidences like that.

I guess I don't get the overall issue (other than the fire potential). I haven't met a GM vehicle, regardless of engine, that didn't leak oil from somewhere...

It's there lot in life.
But I will concur that it isn't necessarily the gaskets, it's the silly, almost non-existent torque spec that the bolts spec'd too.
