50 MPH bad shaking ( FIXED)

Post by MrPOPE »

i know some people are dealing with this 50 MPH shaking thing.... mines was so bad it felt like the car was about to fall apart...

my problem? The Control arms. Replaced both brand new... shaking at 50 mph is over.

Mind you.. i replaced everything else and have new tires ( balanced) but nothing fixed it till i put in new control arms.

Just for grins, I would like to know how you diagnose a bad control arm.

Was it bent, like in an accident? Was the rubber bushings falling out?
Was it rusted completely through (hard to fathom)?

It seems like it would be impossible for a home garage guy to jack it
up and put enough force on one to make it show signs of wear.

So how did you do it?
Black 95 SSEi (original owner) 238K miles
Black 05 GXP (some idiot put the first 12K on it)186K miles
Black 04 Tahoe (original owner)310K miles
Black 16 Traverse (original owner)90K miles
Black 15 Lacrosse (some nice lady put first 15K on it)43K miles

Was a shot in the dark diagnosis... my old Diamante had the same exact problem and it was the bushings... so it made me think it was similar.
usually the arm itself is fine unless it got bent.... usually its the rubber bushings..when they wear out the car vibrates at highway speeds... my mechanic said this car is known for that..and its no way to eye ball or play with it it to see if its bad...
No way to just change the bushing cheaply ...cheaper to replace the whole thing.

My old arms were not bent and to LOOk at them they looked fine...until u felt inside the bushing and they were corroded.
