Replacing radio in 00-05 car with amp in trunk

This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Replacing radio in 00-05 car with amp in trunk

Post by GerGa »

Hi,
I am looking to replace the radio in my H-body(04 buick lesabre with concert sound ii). I just realized it has an amp in the trunk. Being stock, should I assume that amp sounds pretty poor? So just replacing the head unit is not that great?
I was thinking of either running the speakers directly off the headunit, or getting a new amp with it. The first option would require re-wiring I assume. Rewiring might be a good idea with a new amp anyways.
Any advice is appreciated. I never rewired speakers before either.

I know there are people out there that did this on their 00-05 Bonneville. Basically same car.

Thanks

You can add a aftermarket radio while keeping the stock amp, it will still improve sound. Just requires a special adapter harness.

Alternatively, a new amp will require running some new wiring around. Definitely worth it, especially if you can do it yourself. Not difficult by any means, just time consuming.

As it turns out, Lesabres with Concert Sound II did not come with an amp. I thought it did but none in my car. I am just going to replace the Headunit for now but might look into running the wires back to the trunk for a future amp since I have no idea how it's done.

It's very simple, much easier than most cars, particularly since the battery is under the back seat cushion.
