I own a 00 ssei and am due for new tires. I was wondering what the biggest size 17 I can put on my factory rim and where the cheapest place is to buy tires?

Put on the stock size, most people here use Tirerack.

I just learned about tire rack. But I got my last set at Wal-Mart. Douglas brand, I've read quite a few good reviews about them, and I have no complaints so far.

Tire rack or discount tire are your best bet. When it comes to tires make the investment. They are one of if not the most important part on your car. Spending a little more on the best set you can get pays off in the long run. Just my two cents! Good luck shopping! There are a few threads on here discussing tires other members like. I know Carl likes his Pirelli's as did I.

Do you know if the kumho sense tires are any good? And how is tirerack customer service and has any of you ever received tires with broken belts or anything from them? That's one of my biggest fears about ordering offline

I will swing hard off of my Pirelli Cinturatos. They are the most amazing A/S tire I have ever experienced in the snow and are whisper quiet.

The Pirelli's are good, The Continental Extreme Contact DWS (one of my favs), is good, General G-Max (I believe), is good, just use the Tire Rack website, and then rank the tires. You will come to our conclusions.

Loving the DWS's on our VW's. Long life, quiet, great traction in Dry, Wet and good in Snow. Funny how that works...

I will tell you get a good tire!! This might be apples to oranges vehicle wise but I'm comparing tires. Had cooper all seasons (75% tread) on the Caddy and the ABS was kicking constantly in snow and trying to get going and thats even with AWD. Got Blizzak DM-V1 on it now and they make a WORLD of difference. I never really believe people about snow tires till I actually have them. I can basically punch the brakes from 40 to stop and rarely have ABS kick if ever and can do launches in the snow without losing traction.

If you don't have snow or can't afford 2 sets most definitely spend the extra bucks on a set of good all-seasons. It actually ends up saving you money because you don't have to keep paying for mounting and balancing on tires that wear out quickly.

Another person converted. Still have yet to see someone say that winter tires didn't do them any good. Truly a night and day difference. Forget about the traction for a second, the improvements in braking and stability are HUGE and make driving anything less feel downright scary once someone's seen both worlds.

Is it cosmetic dry-rot? Or structural dry-rot?

Several manufacturer's, Michelin primarily, use a UV coating on the rubber that has been known to ironically dry-rot and crack. But it's just cosmetic and has little bearing on the physical safety of the tire. Both Will and I have used Michelin's warranty in regards to this.

I think Yokohama at one time did the same as those would have dry-rot the next day after buying them. But the tire itself ran great.

Perelli Cinturatos P7 on my Bonneville and wife's Malibu. Handles snow like a dedicated snow tire, dry/wet road handling is good and wear is great. Living just outside Buffalo tires can get a winter workout and this year they've been worked pretty hard. Sams club usually has a deal with either a rebate or free installation.

Interesting... im all about buying good tires as the ones on my wifes New Beetle were atrocious but it was all I could afford at the time... I had Daytona SR 14" on my Century, great tires but the last of an era could get decent replacements so I put 15" Cooper Cobras which will move to my new LeSabre soon. My old red GMC had Wranglers that never gave me a spot of trouble. My Cherokee has Wilderness Discoverys? Have to double check. I dont have room to store 3 sets of tires for the summer. I drive the harshest winters an hour a day and have a hard time breaking loose the tires just for fun lol... Though I grew up in the Upper Peninsula, and you learn how to drive in winter on bald donuts like a sunny day in California.... The only time I lost control on ice was in my old Bonneville as it was from California and had tires meant for there... Never occurred to us that someone would bring a car all that way and not put all seasons on it lol

I settled for a pair of cooper tires from pep boys. Although since they put the new tires on I keep getting the message service stability system

I had a set of 15" Cooper Cobras on my 94 SE. Nice all season tire.

I love my Michelin primacy MXV4's...great tire!.

255/50-17 is what we ran on our '00 SSEI put 254,000 miles on that car and all but the first set of tires was 255/50-17. That size should have been the stock on the '00 SSEI.
