A local junk yard has some good-condition 04 Caddy DeVille front struts for $30 each. I've heard the DeVille uses different hubs than the Bonneville/Seville/LeSabre/ParkAvenue/etc. but are the struts compatible with our stuff? Furthermore, will these have a noticeable handling improvement over FE0/1 "soft ride/comfort handling" struts/springs?
Car-part.com sadly doesn't give me the option of choosing FE #s when searching for struts as it did when searching for sway bars.

Re: DeVille struts?
It was most likely different suspension all together but I can tell you I have a base deville 2005 and it wallows and has body roll like no other. Yes smoother but throw it into a corner and getting ready.....
Probably also due to the fact it's a bigger/heavier car. I did read somewhere that the deville had the same struts though.
You will want to verify what kind they are if you get an upper level deville (DTS) it will have the electronic struts either the (CVRSS on older models or magna ride on the newer cars)

Hmm, *dang*. That's what I figured. What's my best bet to find stiffer springs/struts on car-part.com, then? Anything particular to search/look for? Everything I can find is from DeVilles, SeVilles, and it doesn't specify if it's FE3 or FE1

Well I'm no expert with suspension stuff. But honestly I think your best bet would be bonnie GXP FE5 stuff if you want to stiffen up the suspension.
I've never gotten suspension stuff off car-part before. To me for the amount of work it has taken me to change rusted crappy old struts and having a put a used set on once they were worse than what I started with. Never again will I put used struts/shocks on a car. But if you can get them cheap enough it might be worth a shot? You'd be working with much newer cars as well. Mine were 1994 and 1997.

Yes, FE5 struts from a GXP would be ideal, but I can't find any to save my life.

You can browse for few, gxp and whatnot. That's how I got my swaybars. Just make sure you verify with the seller before buying.
I pondered the auto adjusting struts from an sts. I don't know how to go about wiring them or how stuff they get in firm mode, though.
