How will you pass your state's inspection? In New York your car would not pass without a cat.

Modern cars are tuned with CATS so well that any attempt to remove them will impact performance negatively. You won't gain anything unless your going all out race car. Keep them on and concentrate on other areas.

Kansas does not have emissions enforcements for motor vehicles.

And it does make sense that removing the cat would only increase airflow. So I'm not so sure. I would get increased horsepower. I don't see how it could impact negavitely

You can gut the cat. You will be getting a code though, which means you will have to get a tune to get rid of it.

I could do an o2 spoof

It would get rid of the code without a tune for the PCM

Get a magnaflow universal weld in high flow cat for under $100 Or a down pipe/ high flow cat assembly from ZZPerformance for just under $200
I would get the combo.

removing the cat will change the sound of the exhaust. If you have a resonator and mufflers still in there it will sound a little louder. My suggestion is if you are going to gut the cat then just get a offroad downpipe without a cat from ZZP. it will give you more performance, fuel economy and sound and you can always put it back in and sell the offroad pipe.

Pro's of Removing the cat:
* More sound
* "Better Flow" for better performance (In theory... the stock cat will not restrict enough to notice any power difference, the downpipe is the part that robs power from the entire system.)

Cons of removing the cat:
* Fuel smell in exhaust fumes
* Check engine light (without O2 SIM or Tune)
* O2 Sim failure causing CEL (Best to tune it out in the ECU)
* Sound may not be to your liking (Hollow chamber could cause popping/gurgling in exhaust)

Replacing the DP with a ZZP catted downpipe:
* All of the Pros's with none of the Cons.

Stock vs ZZP

all really good information. how hard would installing that downpipe with cat be. im liking that option a whole lot. what kind of gains will i get power-wise?

you all have convinced me top stray away from a complete cat delete
