Why would someone poke a hole here???

Post by techweenie »

While searching for the radiator petcock I found this random hole someone made to access a screw. Anyone know what it's for?

Hmm, that makes me think it was in an accident... There's no other evidence of it though, and nothing was reported to carfax. This is the cleanest car I've ever owned.

I wonder if someone tried strapping it down on a tow truck or something. I kinda think that looks like a "tear" and not a drilled out hackjob. Even though you'd be pulling it the other way. Ya never know.

We had to have the airbag sensor replaced on ours, not because of an accident.

The car does have an aftermarket remote start installed, so I wonder if it could be related to that...

It took a couple years, but I can offer an explanation for that hole. Just changed out my Front Impact Sensor this weekend. That is actually two separate holes you are looking at, that have been merged together to form one larger opening.
Just a hypothesis, but from experience, he had a Torx bit on the end of his nut driver or ratchet, (mine was hard to get off) and the bit fell off and was stuck inside that metal cover. He tried to get his fingers up there to find the bit, he even got out a magnet to try to persuade the bit into the hole, all to no avail.
So he cut the hole larger by cutting from one hole to the other.

Yes I lost my bit up there, but I did NOT cut the hole, I left it up there for safe keeping, to rattle around and drive someone nuts someday. Amazed that I could not get it out.
