odorous smell

Ever since I've owned my car (about a year) a horrendous smell omits from the vents when the fan is running. I just can't take it anymore. If I set the temperature at 90 I don't really get the smell that bad but when turned down to 60 or anywhere in between there and 80 the smell makes a person nautious. My question is what could this possibly be? And how can I fix it?

Thanks

people have found mouse nests and such in the ducts. You may have to do a dash disassembly to see what the problem is.

Hey Beamer good luck. Is the smell like the smell at a hair salon? It's unmistakable. I only get it when at WOT for more than a second or two. I've heard of the dead mouse in the air ducts thing. I hope that's NOT [EDIT] it.

That's what mine was, only it wasn't horrendous, just bad. - BC

Have you checked the passenger/inside air filter? It is under the hood near the firewall. Maybe someone or something contaminated it. swampy

I basically pulled all the vent covers off and the blower motor. The smell was on the blower motor and the area around the blower motor but no smell at the vents, which makes sense becuase i can only smell it when I run the fan. Is there something I can clean the blower motor and inside there with? Lysol nor bleach seemed to help.

IDK about the motor, but you can clean the squirrel cage fan with a mild soap and bleach with water solution. Be sure and rinse as I'm not sure what that will do to the fan if not rinsed. - BC
