1998 SLE with bad front wheel bearing

Post by jkchapman »

I found the thread on replacing a wheel bearing on a 1998 SLE (thanks for the post BTW) HOWEVER one point wasnt covered in the thread I was reading.. Once I change out the bearing will I have to take the car into the shop and the wheels realigned ?

Unless you unbolted the knuckle from the strut for so e reason, you shouldn't have to.

This. You take off your caliper/rotor then should be able to access the 3 star pattern bolts. Once you break the axle nut loose and take the 3 bolts out it should come right out, unplug the abs/wheel sensor. Reverse order for installation.

You shouldn't need to have it realigned I replaced 4 wheel bearings on a 1992 Bonneville a 2004 Yukon Xl Denali, 1998 Bonneville and a 2002 Pontiac camaro and no alignment issues were found with the laser aligner.

Have never seen a "Pontiac camaro"... Must be a rare car! :)

No alignment needed, I can do a 92-99 wheel bearing in my sleep due to my cheapness and buying crappy ones. That being said, make sure you get a Timken or equivalent, never a parts store house brand.
