2005 bonneville sometimes shifts hard

Not sure why but occasionally my 2005 Bonneville will shift extremely hard when it shifts from 1st to second and then again the next shift up. It has 135,000 miles and the trans oil and filter was changed a couple thousand miles ago but I did not drain the torque convertor. Anyone have any ideas on why or what needs done? Should I change the tranny fluid and convertor again?

You will need to install a shift kit.

The transmission shifts normal most of the time which is not hard. It only shifts hard once in a while which is not the norm. The occasional hard shift is what concerns me and makes me think something is not right. Any ideas why a OEM trans with 130,000 miles would shift hard the first two shifts just once in a while? Hopefully something is not going to fail.

Yes I read the link and did not fully understand until I re read it. Doesn't sound like a fix worth pursuing, since it is labor intensive. May just wait it out and see what happens and then do the dreaded overhaul.

A shift kit WILL cure that problem. Many of us here and on other 3800 communities have had great success.

Thanks to all for the help. It is great to be able to use this site for information and it helps to know what others have experienced. I will keep the shift kit in mind. The 2005 Bonneville has only done it twice since I have owned it. I know it will probably get progressively worse. My wife is the primary driver and she doesn't drive many miles a year. It is good to know what the cause is and what many have done to cure the problem.

It's not at all hard to do if you can jack and saport your car safely. Also pay attion to detail there is write ups on this site if your search shift kit.

my 01 bonne does this only once the car reaches 190-200 degrees whatever the full temp reading is. my best friend runs a transmission shop, he pulled the codes and said it was some solenoids in the transmission. he recommended a shift kit, although i had already read that on this forum. i bought the kit but still havent gotten around to putting it in.
