ABS Light,etc

Post by trkelly »

I have 2 questions- first my ABS light and no traction light "occasionally" come on, any ideas why?

2nd question- I replaced both the sepentine belts about 2 weeks ago and now I am getting a squeal, although I don't think it's from a slipping belt, it does get quieter when it warms up but if you accelerate it will squeal again. Maybe a pulley?? any ideas again?

Check and/or clean your wheel speed sensors at each corner of the car. Look at the connection and the sensor itself for damage. It sounds like it may just be a short in the wiring harness. A freind of mine with a '99 G.P. had the same issue after he had accedintally broken one of his speed sensors, and his traction control & ABS light came one. He replaced the sensor and all is well now.

When do they "occasionally" come on? Any common times or conditions when this happens?

I agree. If your car is anything like my 98 SE the sensors have plugs for both front left and right on the side walls inside the engine compartment. The passenger side one is pretty exposed, and right next to your belt so maybe you bumped it and damaged that one. The other one is straight across on the driver side.

I'd carefully inspect that passenger side one though since you said something about changing your belt.

there is no common time the no traction and ABS lights coming on, they come on when I'm driving and not applying the brakes, if I shut off the car and restart they are sometimes off and sometimes they are still on.
I'm going to have to check out the speed wheel sensors, that seams like a good place to start.

Any thoughts on the squeaky pulley's, maybe a bad tensioner?
