My headlights just stopped working for several seconds. The parking lights stayed on, and I don't know what the taillights did. Same behavior using the twilight sentinal or manually. Where to start?

Before the days of vast information on the interwebs, 1997 to be exact, I wanted to disable the DRL's on my old 96 SE. I found a LCM under the dash close to center that would click when I turned the lights on. I took this box out and probed the lines, until I found the line that powered up with the lights off and car in drive, ie DRLs. I cut this wire. In doing so I unknowingly knocked the headlight wire loose. Every now and then my headlights would go out, with parking, tail, and fog working fine. I could jiggle the wires and the headlights would come back on.

I'm not sure my 92 is the same. Definitely no DRLs.

I'd start by checking continuity of the fuses relays & wiring.
If it has been damp or wet out this could be the cause.
Maybe even a bad relay, try swapping the relays.

I tried flipping dim/brights, but neither worked at that moment, if that helps. I'll locate the related relays.

I think it's just the headlight switch. My sentinal quit working one night so I had to turn them on manually. Fiddling with the duration knob made them start working again. I also have to fiddle with the dimmer to get my interior lights to turn on sometimes, doesn't matter if it's the sentinal or on manual. When I first got everything put back together the headlights would sometimes not turn on as well.

I wish, but it's not. 90 has a rocker switch, 92-99 has a twist/pull knob. It's ingrained into the 92-99 switch operation.

So after getting a refund for the first one I ordered that was broken in shipping and getting a new one, I installed a new switch last night. The old one had corrosion in visible coil. Haven't had a test drive yet.

After a few nighttime jaunts, the headlights seems to be working right so far.
