door to fuel tank

Post by pete25 »

The door to the fuel tank has locked and can't get it open. I tried locking and unlocking car and that did nothing. Then i looked around and couldnt find any override button or something like that.

Found it. I guess I overlooked it at the gas station thinking it was a trunk release because it was covered in tape. It still latches shut everytime I close but at least now I have a way to open it.

funny story... while looking for my water leak, i got in my trunk with a flashlight and had my dad run a hose over the outside of the trunk to find where it was coming in, and once i found it, i pulled on that lever for a minute or so before i realized it wasn't the trunk release!

Yea, i figured that was the mob victim cord. But i peeled back the tape and it said fuel door or something like that.

Mine never opens unless I open the trunk and pull that release wire. Any idea why it won't open otherwise, even though this is probably good with gas being $4.00?

well first thing that came to mind when it happened was the commercial where the car won't let the guy fill up with gas because it's not a certain chain gas station.

Mine did that too. I just unplugged the lock mechanism so the door stays unlocked all the time and put a locking gas cap on instead. Not ideal, but it was a quick fix.

Just bend the bracket that the locking mechanism fits into very slightly and it will work fine. Had the same problem and thats how I fixed it. Works good now/

In addition to bending the bracket a bit, you might also consider disassembling the locking mech and using a little lubrication.
