Code P0440 - evap system

I keep getting this code when I start the car after it is parked on a hot day. Purchased a new fuel cap, cleaned the surfaces and cleared the code with the scan tool. Code came back.
Problem is I need to pass emissions test next month.
I want to check the evap canister, solenoid and the lines. (are there 2 solenoids?) Is the evap canister and solenoid accessible without dropping the fuel tank? Where do I get to it? (I am guessing from the rear driver side wheel well?)
Also, when checking the evap solenoid in engine compartment, I broke the U-shaped tube which runs from the solenoid to the throttle body. It was extremely brittle. You can see the tube to the left of the arrow in the following picture:
Can I replace this tube with rubber hose? (I dont think this was the cause of the code).
Any other hints chasing down this code?
thanks

Yes that tube can cause the error code you are seeing. The best way to track this one down is a smoke test. I have the same issue and am getting a smoke test for $35

I had same code. Did many of the things you are doing like replacing visually failed vac lines. Didn't clear. Then I replaced the whole plastic/rubber vac harness that goes around the intake manifold hooking in here and there. The tech said it was like $100 but charged me only $35.
Problem and code immediately gone. There's threads around here on that.

So I took the evap purge solenoid out and tested it. It was bad. The way I could tell was that I could blow a bit of air through it and when checking the resistance on the solenoid terminals it appeared to be shorted out. I put a new one in.
For that U-shaped tube, I got a piece of vacuum tube and connected it up.
Now just to wait and hopefully the code doesnt come back.. In hindsight I should not have cleared the codes, but let the computer clear the P0440 code itself. Now I have to wait until the entire computer system becomes "ready" before I can do the emissions test.

It won't take long, mine was popping every other day or so. Let us know one way or the other.

Did a smoke test today and found that the gas gap and tank seal were leaking...

I noticed after I replaced my shorted out evap solenoid with a new one, the radio now keeps the correct time, no matter how long the car has been parked!! weird.
Before it would lose about an hour a day. I think the shorted evap solenoid sucked power continuously.

Cool. I guess knowing there is another solenoid is old news. Glad every thing's working out on time blye.
