My 2005 Bonneville SE with 3.8 V6, normally aspirated, series two motor. with 175,000 miles.
All of a sudden the cruise control stopped working! ? I checked the fuse, and it is good. What else shall I check? where could the problem be?
I just had ( with in the past 5 days) the converter replaced because a code was set with the exhaust sensors indicating the converter had failed. ($252.00, ouch!)
Does the cruise control on this car have any connection or dependency with engine vacuum?

The cruise module is entirely electronic, it is mounted to the drivers side strut tower. I would unplug it, make sure there is no corrosion at all with the plug, then release the cable from the throttle body and make sure it is able to move freely. If it still doesn't work it may be a bad module.

Success! and it is because of Your help that lead me to the source of the problem! Here is how it all went. The entire process took about 15 mins. from the time I discovered the problem area and decided on a plan of action and performed the actual repair.
After locating the cruise control motor/servo to be located on the driver's side strut tower, I discovered the cable from the control motor had disconnected from the mounting point on the throttle body, I reattached it and then disconnected the cable from the motor/servo and found the cable there to have disconnected from the ribbon cable that comes from the servo / motor. I reattached this and reassembled the black cable sheath to the sevo/ motor and then test drove the car. and discovered the cruise worked! and has been for days now. Hurray! Thank you so Much!
Now if I could just solve the cause of the sporadic EVAP code, I could finally get the car to pass the NC DOT inspection! Smoking the system finds no leaks, holes, or cracks?????

Gas cap seems to be a fairly common cause of evap codes especially when the filler neck gets even a little bit rusty.

Agreed its possibly the gas cap. the one on my car is very intermittent the rest of the system is solid. i will replace it before winter hits
