Radiator go Boom!

Post by ice_qube »

Ok, i have posted a while back about my radiator exploding but didnt want to revive an old thread...if this was wrong i apologize.

Im on my i believe 2nd brand new radiator. The stock and the one after exploded. So recently i changed head gaskets, and Lim gaskets, I didnt touch the waterpump or Tstat as the waterpump was replaced 2 years ago brand new and the t-stat has barely even been used (replaced last year sometime...but car hasnt been ran alot). When i installed my radiator today i filled it and ran it without the cap to expel any air bubles but for some reason it seemed like they never completly stopped. After a while it was overflowing then it spit all the coolant out. Is there something in particular that could cause this to happen? It has done this on the past radiators and i heard the gargling which ended up with my radiators blowing. Now i did notice today after everything ....my fans never came on but i didnt get to check the temp as i was busy watching the coolant to check the bubbles being displaced.... :dontknow:

tomorro im going to try again and follow the tech info post on filling/bleeding the system...i already have a hole drilled in my tstat from before...ill also check the fuses tomorrow.

please tell me theres light at the end of this tunnel :banghead:

I believe there is a little bleeder screw on top of the t-stat housing...there is on my 94 SE. There should be a write-up here somewhere on how to use the bleeder properly.

Also be sure to replace your radiator cap. Even if it is not that old. Get a good quality one---AC Delco or Stant, and be sure it is the proper pressure rating.

I got a brand new radiator cap when i got the new radiator...but its neither of the 2..i think it said motor rad from oriellys :( ( im starting to find out they really dont carry much name brand little stuff) im going back to get antifreeze in a little bit hopefully if my sis is awake. ill let you kno my update once i complete everything.
