Mine was the same way when I bought my Bonneville. I just lifted the cover that sits over the shifter, unplugged the button and popped it out of the cover.

I then cleaned it with lots of rubbing alcohol, let it dry out for about an hour, put it back in, and the button was working again.

Yes, you're supposed to be able to depress the button to disable TC. I agree, you can try cleaning it with alcohol or something, or get a good one from harofreak00.

It doesn't just push out the bottom though. There is a small torx T15 or T10 screw holding it in place on the back side.

the girl spilled so much junk I had to pull the switch apart just to clean it. How do you spill stuff and just leave it???? At one point I thought it was alive. It reminds me of cleaning my daughters car,its like really could we get anymore junk all over the car.Hope the switch still works.

If it doesn't work at least it's a cheap and easy replacement.

I'm glad the 02+ put the TC and heated seat switches in a much smarter place..

Had to remove shift handle to pull it out.Sprayed it down and took it apart and it works. Why put a switch right below a cup holder, rocket scientist I tell you.

I can see it. Where the TC and the heated seat switches are in 2000 and 01 models, they are easy to reach, which is what the engineers were aiming for. Personally I like them there just for that reason, but I like the cupholders in my '05 GXP...which moves the switches up under the center stack.
