The Headlight retrofit to end them all

This is technically my 4th set of headlights for this car. I have never been happy with the prevoius sets, and I have never been more frustrated with THIS set of lights....This set of lights took over 8 months to complete working against setbacks, and redesiging of a few things...but I finally got them done the day before I left for the Intense/3800 Gathering.....

Anyway on to the Build details

FX-R 3.0 Low Beams
FX-R 1.1 (Front Half) High Beams
Gatlin Gun Shrouds.......(they didnt fit)
E46-R Shrouds
Morimoto D2S 5000K
XB Led 60mm (for the highbeam)
XBA Led's 90mm behind the E46-r's
Cadillac Turn Signals

Starting this project, I used the OEM Bonneville Housings from my car.

Image

I quickly realized that the FX-R projector is huge, and will not fit with the reflector in place. That being said mounting would not be possible to the reflector, and will need to be mounted to the Headlight housing.

Image

I went junkyarding for GM Fog Light springs, and used Machine screws to attach.

Once the Low Beams were done, it was on to the Highs. Again i realized that there was even LESS room because of the headlight and also what is behind the headlight. I still wanted the Look, and the FX-R is a BiXenon (as well as the fog lights) I decided to use just the front half of a FX-R 1.1 Projector.

Because its a Fake projector i still wanted the appearance that it was real. I added a XB Led

Now onto the turnsignal. I never was in love with the exposed bulb look when the Orange was removed from the Headlights.
Image

So i set out on a mission to do something different. There are a few cars that have headlights that resemble the Bonneville, so i began looking and came across these....

Image

Cadillac STS Headlights....When you dissassemble the STS lights this is the Turnsignal portion
Image

SO began the cutting and hacking to make the STS turnsignal fit in the Bonneville Headlight....

Image

Image

Image

After everything was mocked up, aimed, and re aimed it was time to put on the shrouds.......they didnt fit when I went to install the lense......
Image

I needed a different design of shroud......
I choose the E46-R

I had to do essentially the same thing to install the Morimoto Mini H1's in the low beam spot, though I didn't go as far as to retain the adjustment capability and the Mini Gatling shroud was able to fit with no issues. I also used a lot more epoxy to fill and seal the gaps

Very clean swap, looks amazing in person!

I really like them! I think it gives the headlights an updated look without being too obvious and distracting from the rest of the car!

I'm so jealous. I still really want to do one in Penny. Those turn signals came out particularly cool.

Do you have any output pics?

I have been trying to find a white flat surface to get some cutoff pics..... the amount of blue/purple is insane
