My build has been using some 1998 Bonneville wheel bearings in the front, and only have 800km/500miles on them. They were whisper quiet, things were good.
They sat in storage(indoor garage no heat) for this past winter, didnt move for 5 months. Took it out for its first test drive this weekend and noise was immediately apparent from the driver side front wheel. It doesnt sound like the typical wheel bearing hum, but more so of a repeating scuff that will increase/decrease with speed. I checked to make sure nothing was rubbing the tire while on the ground, and all is clear. Jacked the car up, put it in neutral, rotate the wheel and still quiet, other than mechanical noise from transmission when going back and forth.
I'm wondering if it is only apparent with load on it.

Re: Wheel Bearings and Storage
this reply might be a bit late, but I did the same thing to my bonne back in november, and also hear the sounds of wheel bearings lightly whing/scuffing. That was my first though because i had replaced them not long ago. But it was just simply rust on my rotos, and drums rubbing off making a very similar sound. didnt notice it much on the outside surface, but the inside has quite brown after a few days now I have no more sounds like that at all. So I'm guessing its just rust from sitting, especially in a cold garage , because of humidity build up especially when it started warming up.
