L27 pinging 94 LeSabre

I've been driving a 94 LeSabre for the winter and the motor has recently starting pinging while under load. At first, I thought it was maybe some bad gas, but after going through a couple more fill ups, I knew the pinging was here to stay. No check engine light. If you accelerate with a light throttle, no ping. But a little more throttle will cause the ping. 81,000 miles on the car with original drive train. It runs excellent otherwise. Any ideas?

Good question, I've driven the car about 3500 miles since I've had it but have not checked out the plugs, wires, and coils.

Sounds like spark knock....it wouldn't hurt to change the plugs and get some Belden wires.
