New from Michigan

I just purchased a used 2002 Pontiac Bonneville SLE. I haven't had a mechanic do a complete check of it yet so I don't know all of the issues that I'm sure to encounter. They just did a quick eye check, reving of the engine and test drive & gave me a thumbs up to buy. The car is so new to me, I don't even know how to operate most of it, gotta find an owner's manual. I will not personally work on it (major stuff) but when things go wrong, I'd like to check & see if I can get at least a hint of what could be wrong and sorta hopefuuly will help me to understand what a mechanic is doing to my car. However, I will change headlight bulbs and the like......you know real simple stuff...lololol. By now, maybe you've figured out that I'm female and I'll try to not worry the hell outta u guys.

As I'm reading this list, I'm ROFLMAO because it seems as though I have all of them but I really really like this car and I guess I'll have to take a step at a time. I had an alarm put on it and was told they found a mileage stopper under the hood somewhere which was a bummer cuz now I don't really know the true miles but I hear the 3800 engine is pretty *dang* good. I'll try to upload a pic of the outside soon.

A mileage stopper under the hood? Not so sure about that one, your speedometer would probably not work either I would think.
As for the issues, we have all been through them, my 03 has been a nightmare. Most of them are relatively easy fixes though and with help from us you can likely do most of them on your own

I don't know what you call it but it stops your odometer from recording the mileage. People will sometimes do that on cars tp prevent high mileage readings knowing that the car probably won't sell at the price that they want if at all. So, they buy this device to stop the miles from rolling while they still drive the car until they decide to sell it. The guys that put on my alarm told me that they found it deep deep under the hood somewhere.
I have alot to do too, I'll tackle some of the smaller stuff myself for sure but not during the winter months.

I would be very skeptical of a mileage stopper on one of these cars. If the signal is stopped from the VSS before reaching the computer or modified in any way then the speedometer would either not work at all or be way off.

Welcome from SW Michigan!
With all the Michiganders I think we need to change the state name, logo, capital, something to Bonneville!!

Welcome!!
Sounds like you got taken by a shop, lol. They probably charged you an hours labor to remove the "Mileage stopper" too...

I didn't take it to a shop. I went to have an alarm installed and they found it during that process.
