mine has stupid torx bits with the nub in the middle so you can't get a regular tool on it... why did they do this?

how critical do you think cleaning the MAF is? car seems to run ok but it's something i would like to do as im sure it has never been done... how can i get it off?

You can pick up the tools you need for about $10 at AutoZone.

Looks like a set of allen wrenches, in a red holder. I think the torx size you'll need is T20.

Tamper Torx and any auto parts store, sears etc sells them. You can also get them socket mounted ( for leverage with a wrench ) if needed which I reccomend they run about $28 at sears..

You can turn those with a regular hex wrench. Just don't strip them

EDIT:
Nevermind I completely misunderstood the part about the nub. Although they do work pretty well for regular ones
