Okay so i went to fill my tank this morning and when i finally got that tank filled to the click and stopped. Now I hear a drizzling sound and look under and i see that i have a leak coming out from around the tank. The location where it was flowing out of was the left side of the tank around where the it tapers out toward the filler neck. It was pouring out in the same manor as if you overfilled a jug with water or something, at that kind of rate.

Backstory time I recently did work on the car and recently it has been sitting for about three weeks. Just finished everything and now i got a check engine light and check gas cap. So predictions on what it can be? I am guessing there might be a hole somewhere along the neck of the tank where there might be a release of pressure and triggering the check gas cap message. While driving I have no fuel leaks and am not leaving any trails anywhere(did this by driving up and down my block in forward and reverse at different speeds). Basically, when the filler clicked that the tank was full, i am guessing it was overfilled and I might have a hole somewhere along the brim.

These cars aren't really known for leaking fuel tanks. But pictures always help if you are not sure.

I agree, it could be a lot of things, but you're just gonna have to crawl in there and look.

Okay so I didnt get the chance to take a look at the tank, but using some deductive logic we can make a guess where the leak is coming from. So i was looking at a picture of what the tank looks like online and i noticed that there are three components on the top of the tank: the fuel pump hole, a hose in the middle(vent hose or something i assume, not sure) and the filler neck. Now, I have a check gas cap message so somewhere there is either a hole or a seal. From what i noticed is that if the fuel pump o ring failed, then it could of leaked from there and run down the channel to leak on the left of the tank. or from the filler neck as well. My question is that hose in the middle, does any fuel go down that line or is that an evap line that pulls air from the tank. I am trying to get down to an idea of what it can be by trying to eliminate things. Also getting a faint fuel smell in the trunk, so I am assuming it is the fuel pump o ring seeing as the pump was removed and the sensor replaced.

basically I want an understanding of how the components connected to the tank operate so that I can narrow things down.

According to your description, that is the evap pipe.

is the charcoal canister in front of the gas tank? or near the engine bay? I am assuming it cant be on top of the tank seeing as there really is no room around there.

You are pumping past the click are you?

Once I click, I stop. I am going to change out the O ring around the fuel pump, I recently did the fuel gauge and it is possible something might be around there. I want to rule out everything before i do drop the gas tank, keep that as a last resort. The check gas cap tells me that there is broken seal somewhere. The filler neck, the fuel pump, or the vent hose. Just want to understand how the fuel system works.

The canister is under the car, roughly under the back seat, toward the center of the car on the driver's side. A grey or black rectangular box.

Edit - If you removed the fuel pump, and did not replace the seal for the tank, I'd suggest starting there and replace that seal.
