transmission filter brand?

Post by Zeik75 »

Alright so i have to replace my left c/v shaft next week ao im also gonna go ahead and change my transmission filter and the c/v shaft seals while im at it. So i was wondering what brand of filter and fluid should I get. I know these transmissions can be picky so thought i would just check. Also It's an 88 bonne with the vin c 3800 but what type of transmission fluid should i use Dexron III or Dexron II. My family has owned the car for about 15 years and my dad said he always used Dex II but my manual says Dex III? Anyone know which i should actually put in now after all this time of it having Dex II?

I believe that would be Dexron IIE, and IIRC Dex III didn't come around until the mid 90s. It is reverse compatible though.

Get generic Dex/Merc at a parts store or Walmart.

Filter: I prefer Wix, but idk if there's really a major difference between any of them...
