I was wondering if anyone with a 96 ssei had relocated their pcm, I would like a little more room for my cai if anyone has done this or has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated... thanks
im not sure what you mean foam ensemble there was some foam around the box but it got taken out to do my cai give me a little bit and ill get pics :D
pics are here
heres where the horn was and you can see above how cramped my cai was

i moved the horn back to the next bracket and tucked the pcm further in the fender

it got me probably about 4-5 more inches which was just what I needed

that isn't a cai...
it's a wai(warm air intake)...just correcting you before someone else does...not trying to be rude.
though it's close if not equal to being the best bang for your buck in terms of air intakes.
in car enthusiast terms a cai gets air outside of the engine bay aka where you can get cold(really ambient air temp) as opposed to heat soaked air from within the engine bay...not from behind or nearly behind the radiator/condenser + whatever other heat get trapped within from the headers and engine...if you walled it off from the engine bay and removed your headlight/added ducting to get plenty of fresh air from the outside it would be much closer to a 'true' cai...
why do you need more room for it? the clearance issues seem fine...is it damaging something? more clearance will net 0 performance...
oh and you can't easily relocate you PCM unless you extended a ton of wires...you are stuck for where it is basically.
edit: is it just me or is the chrome piping smaller then your TB maybe it's just the adapter that makes it look considerably smaller?

actually in most of the pics the pcm was already moved and the cold air box stays much cooler than the engine bay considering its insulated and has air flow on it constantly.... but you can judge it however you like.... the performance is much better and its a cai to me..heres why

I just ordered a poser CAI from ebay and am completley regretting it. I havn't gotten it yet but I will have it tomorrow. I realize now that I will still be sucking in warm air and thats no good. I am probably going to copy your design except for a few mods. I will get the flexible intake tubing from intense racing (in a size that matches my throttle body, I will then make the same hard box as you (cause its sweet!) but heres the most important part. I was wondering how you can plug the Air temp sensor into the filter which is a foot and a half away from the engine? Maybe not but wouldn't the chrome tubing be heated up by the engine bay a little bit and affect the temp of the air which has already gone through the filter and past the temp sensor? It probably wouldn't be much of a difference but I want my computer to know the exact temp of the air getting into the engine. This is why I am going to use the little chrome elbow from the cheap CAI kit from ebay. It has a hole for the Air temp sensor only an inch or 2 from the throttle body. Then I will proceed to connect the flexible tubing to the elbow and then to the filter inside the box. I will keep everything the same diameter as the throttle body too.

I recommend a set up like this. my heat shield fully encloses the cone filter and is lined on the inside with fire resistant insulation and refectex. Cold air is fed by 3 inch duct that goes behind the headlight and down to a snorkel near my front lic plate. My air temps have never been more than 2 degrees above ambient. I also blocked off the coolant passage in my TB to keep the air cooler. PCM cover is custom made with diamond plate aluminum.

Wow that looks AWESOME! Whats that blue cylinder inline with your intake tubing? Is that your filter? Do you have any other pics?
Thanks,

That blue thing is my heat shield for my filter. fully enclosed so no hot air gets in. sorry for hijacking the thread...

Do you have any more pics of that? did you buy that as a kit or make it? it looks so clean. It looks a lot simpler than making a big ass fiberglass box too.
